Mayor responds to candidate's concern for region's pets

Response from Mayor Strelow:

I appreciate Mr McMillan's concern and he has raised a genuine issue in our community.

The pound needs to be totally rebuilt - and at a new site.

Council had identified a parcel of land for a new pound but Cr Schwarten (now part of his team) led a community protest that led to that site being abandoned.

Should Mr McMillan achieve his ambition and serve as the next Mayor of this great community he will find that we have already budgeted $3 1/2  million dollars in forward budgets (commencing in 2019- but it needs to be brought forward ). The challenge, as always, will be to find a suitable site.

We will progress our review of possible sites to make sure that design work and town planning can progress to allow construction at a new site during the next term
