Mayor to light up Christmas tree in East St Mall tonight

BE dazzled tonight when Mayor Margaret Strelow lights up Rockhampton's huge Christmas tree in the East St mall.

The mall will be bursting from 2pm with singers, dancers, Christmas stalls, food, fun rides and animals from Cooberrie Park to celebrate the lighting of the tree.

Santa will also make a special visit.

There will be face painting, fashion parades and local band Velocity Duo.

Cr Strelow will light the tree at 7.30pm.

The CBD businesses will be open and people have the chance to win a $4000 travel voucher simply by buying goods and collecting a voucher from two participating businesses in the mall.

There's plenty of parking available for a gold coin donation at the Arcade car park.
