SOCIAL media has the power to spread a message around the world within seconds.

Mackay girl Rachael Attard is inspiring people the world over with a healthy message.

"It's amazing how much pull you can have on Instagram," she said.

"I started my own health and fitness page and was surprised by the feedback I got."

Her social media following began modestly in Brisbane, and now includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, to go with her successful online blog.

Ms Attard said her interest in health and fitness was inspired by her mother who was an aerobics instructor.

"I wasn't the most athletic kid, but I loved dancing and was always at the gym with mum," she said.

"I competed in a triathlon and fell in love with the training. It went from there."

Not just a picture of fitness, Ms Attard graduated from St Patrick's College and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science at The University of Queensland.

She has more than 18,000 Instagram followers, and her online blog is visited by hundreds daily.

"I aim to provide followers with the information and education to be fit and healthy," Ms Attard said.

"A lot of followers were interested in how I grew the social media campaign."

Her online success inspired her to collaborate with partner Andrew Brown to write an e-Book, to be released within two weeks.

Ms Attard said her home town's obesity problem was a result of poor education about exercising and healthy eating. Getting started was tough, she admitted, but her blog outlines a detailed guide to becoming healthy.
