The graduating class of Sunshine Coast Grammar School joined for a night of glitz and glamour on Thursday as the Year 12 formal marked the end of their high school experience.

The red carpet was lined with fairy lights at the Sunshine Coast Convention Centre while the students arrived for an unforgettable evening.

Head of Year 12 Katie Livock said the students were all "very much ready" to celebrate after completing their external exams earlier in the week.

"It's been a crazy year," she said.

"The students have had to face a whole lot of challenges this year, but it has strengthened their resilience and I think we have a pretty good team in Year 12.

"They've really looked out for one another and looked after each other."

Ms Livock said the school was grateful the formal was postponed from earlier this year so the teens could have a normal celebration without the interruption of coronavirus restrictions.

"In holding it out, we've been able to have parents attend safely, and we've been able to have dancing all the normal celebrations we would have, so we feel really lucky," she said.

Ms Livock wished the graduating class all the best.

"I feel like this group are really ready, after having pushed through a difficult year, they're really ready to face the world now," she said.

"I'm really excited for their adventure."
