Rebels sign Wallabies fullback, gun bro

THE Western Force influence continues to flush through the Melbourne Rebels, with Wallabies fullback Dane Haylett-Petty signing for the Super Rugby club.

And in an added bonus for the Rebels, Haylett-Petty's younger brother Ross, himself a rising star of Australian rugby, is also crossing from Perth.

Both are on two-year deals.

It came down to the Rebels and the Force as to who would be axed from Super Rugby.

And with the Rebels surviving they have turned into the biggest beneficiaries of the Force's demise.

Highly-rated coach David Wessels has crossed the country, as have former Force players Tetera Faulkner, Ben Daley, Jermaine Ainsley and now the Haylett-Petty brothers.

Ross, a 23-year-old lock, won the Force's rising star award in 2016 and played every game in this year's campaign.

Dane, 28, has made 18 international appearances, but is not available for the Wallabies Spring Tour as he is out with a left bicep injury.

"I'm really excited about getting stuck in and working hard to achieve something special over the next few years," he said.

"The rugby program that Dave (Wessels) runs is all about hard-work and pushing each other, I think we're building a very competitive group at the Rebels, so I know that he's going to get the best out of me here."
