Mercedes joy ride irresistible

WHEN Mark Andrew Francis and a group of juveniles found an unlocked Mercedes Benz with the keys in it, they couldn’t resist taking it for a joy ride.

The group grabbed a wallet from inside then ditched the car a short distance from its Norman Gardens home before ransacking a second vehicle that had been left unlocked in a driveway.

Francis pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to charges of entering a premises on May 13.

Francis lives in Mackay and usually works on a prawn trawler, but had been in Rockhampton helping out friends.

Francis made full admissions to the offences.

Magistrate Tom Bradshaw fined Francis $500.
