Mercy Health and Aged Care CQ national employers of the year
MERCY Health and Aged Care Central Queensland has been announced as the joint national employer of the year at the 2015 CoAct National Conference in Canberra.
CoAct is a national network of locally embedded community service providers working together to create social and economic opportunities for Australia's disadvantaged.
Assistant Minister for Employment Luke Hartsuyker presented CEO Ian Mill with the award at a gala dinner at Old Parliament House last week.
CoAct member Community Solutions Group nominated Mercy CQ for their contribution to providing employment opportunities for people in Rockhampton who have a disability.
CoAct CEO Matt Little said it was important that employment and workforce development success was celebrated, especially the employers who play an integral part in the process.
"The Employer of the Year Award is about celebrating the positive relationships our members have with the nation's employers.
"We think it's necessary to publicly recognise employers who have a positive attitude in giving employment opportunities to job seekers, provide supportive working environments and promoting retention and development."
Mercy CQ has made a concerted effort to create and organisational culture inclusive of people with disability.
They have allocated budget, run awareness sessions and worked on providing support places for people with disabilities.
Mercy CQ is currently working with Community Solutions in Rockhampton and Mackay to make this vision a reality.
