Metcalf motors to victory at Rocky Rumble Formula 500 series

BRAD Metcalf is savouring success.

Engines were roaring at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Saturday night as round one for the Rocky Rumble Formula 500 series heated up and Mackay's Metcalf could not have asked for better results.

After cruising through three heats, Metcalf reigned supreme in the Formula 500 feature ahead of Townsville's Kaydon Iverson and Maryborough driver Dale Shilleto.

Chief steward Troy Josefski hailed the first round of the contest as a huge success and was looking forward to seeing more drivers on the track in round two on January 11. "The night went really well," Josefski said.

"We only had one crash when Todd Stevens from Cairns lost his right hand side front wheel.

"Todd losing his wheel left Ross McAteer with nowhere to go and he crashed into the back of him so there was a bit of carnage."

Josefski said Gladstone locals Tony Schmidt and Adrian Josefski were both looking good to place in the feature, but mechanical problems throughout the night hindered their performances.

Josefski wished to thank Rocky Rumble sponsor Rocky Resort Motor Inn for their support and the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club for putting on a fantastic night of racing.
