FEW occasions mean more to Charnell White than NAIDOC Week.

The newly crowned Miss NAIDOC will be in the middle of the region's celebrations when they kick off next week.

"It was the first time I have entered and it was the last year I would be eligible, so it's a really big honour for me," she said.

Charnell said that NAIDOC Week was an important event for the whole Rockhampton community.

"To me it's about celebrating indigenous culture, taking pride in your heritage and sharing it with the non-indigenous community."
