FIREFIGHTERS are battling to extinguish a ferocious fire after a van burst into flames at a busy Gold Coast Highway.

Fire crews were called to the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Dolphin Avenue at Nobby Beach just before 9.30am.

A white van was pulled over on the side of the road, fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus as they battle the blaze and paramedics are also on scene.
