Morcombe brief 'unusually large'

THE lawyer representing the man accused of abducting and murdering Daniel Morcombe says he will need three months to read the "unusually large" brief of evidence against his client.

Brett Peter Cowan, 42, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court via video link this morning, where lawyers discussed the case against him.

He was silent for the short hearing, except to confirm his name.

Mr Cowan has been in custody since his arrest in August this year when he was charged with murder, child stealing, deprivation of liberty, indecent treatment of a child and interfering with a corpse.

The charges culminated an eight-year investigation into the disappearance of Daniel who was 13 when he vanished while waiting for a bus on the Sunshine Coast in 2003.
