More CCTV cameras coming to Rocky

ROCKHAMPTON people have never been watched so closely.

More CCTV cameras are to be added to the fibre optic surveillance systems monitoring the CBD, Victoria Park and Queens Park.

Pedestrians on Fitzroy River Bridge will be watched by four new cameras and there are extra eyes in the sky planned for Victoria Parade and along the river bank.

Councillors have been updated on the latest additions to the $1.5 million network which can be monitored in the East Street rotunda and by police at the station in Bolsover Street.

Four cameras are to be installed on Bolsover Street, between Fitzroy and William to cover the new bus stops.

The Fitzroy River Bridge will be covered by four cameras in Bencke Park and adjacent to the PCYC on Lakes Creek Road.

And to increase security in the park8 land in Victoria Parade, where there have been numerous incidents involving street drinkers, four cameras will be fitted to light poles.

Councillors were told the Main Roads department planned to install surveillance in the pedestrian overpass to Emmaus College in Yaamba Road. The images provided by those cameras will also be able to be viewed at the monitoring stations.
