Morris flys through killer field to land men's first silver

AUSTRALIA has a rich history in women's aerials but had no male aerialist had taken anything home from the Olympics before Morris.

With women's bronze medallist Lydia Lassila watching on, Morris qualified fourth for the four-man final with a 115.05 in final two.

The 29-year-old Melbournian then opened proceedings in the final with an impressive 110.41 but was only briefly sitting in top spot after veteran Belrusian Anton Kushnir put down an almost perfect 134.50.

Morris faced a nervous wait as China's Guangpu Qi stood atop the hill but the world champion took a tumble on landing and could only muster a score of 90.00, guaranteeing Morris a medal.

What colour that medal would be was not known until Qi's team-mate and eventual bronze medallist Zongyang Jia (95.06) also failed to stick his landing.
