ITALIAN racer Doriano Romboni has died after being hit by another rider at a tribute event south of Rome in memory of countryman Marco Simoncelli, killed in similar circumstances two years ago.

Simoncelli died at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix after losing control and being hit by two other two bikes, one ridden by multiple world champion Valentino Rossi.

Romboni, 45, was a six-time race winner in the 125cc and 250cc categories.
