Mourinho sent to stands again

FOOTBALL: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is facing further sanctions after being sent off for the second time in the space of a few weeks during his team's 1-1 English Premier League draw with West Ham at Old Trafford.

Referee Jon Moss, the same official who banished the Portuguese to the stands against the Hammers while he was Chelsea boss least season, sent Mourinho packing after he kicked a water bottle in frustration after Paul Pogba was booked for diving.

Replays clearly showed Moss was right to yellow card the Frenchman with Mark Noble making no contact.

Mourinho was also sent to the stands by Mark Clattenburg last month as United drew 0-0 with Burnley.

On that occasion he took exception to what he perceived to be missed penalty calls by the official.

Mourinho could now face more time out following his earlier run-ins with the English Football Association this season.

He was banned and fined for an incident in the tunnel at half-time during the match against Burnley, and in a separate case was fined £50,000 for comments made about referee Anthony Taylor before United's match with Liverpool.

Mourinho was also fined £50,000 for saying that referees were afraid to award Chelsea penalties during their 3-1 defeat by Southampton in October 2015.

On the field, West Ham took the lead in the second minute through Diafra Sakho's header before Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed an equaliser.

United remains sixth, while Arsenal consolidated fourth spot with a 3-1 home win over Bournemouth.

The Gunners ended a run of three successive draws as Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Theo Walcott once.

An own goal by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes gave Stoke City a deserved win as Watford was beaten at home for the first time since August.

In the day's other game, Southampton defeated Everton 1-0 at St Mary's Stadium thanks to a goal from Charlie Austin after just 41 seconds.
