MP called hypocrite for marching
NOTHING was going to stop Robert Schwarten marching yesterday – not even a verbal barb labelling him a hypocrite.
The attack on the Member for Rockhampton came from LNP candidate for Keppel Bruce Young.
Mr Young said Mr Schwarten and Member for Keppel Paul Hoolihan should not have participated in Labour Day events, adding they were hypocrites for marching with workers while ignoring the carbon tax.
“Robert Schwarten and Paul Hoolihan should be opposing this carbon tax, and Labour Day is the ideal day for them to make a stand,” Mr Young said.Mr Schwarten responded by saying: “Since 1910, a Schwarten has been marching in the Labour Day march and standing up for the worker.
“And the day Bruce Young stops me from marching I'll give it all away.”
Mr Schwarten also wanted to remind Mr Young the carbon tax was not a state issue, but federal.
Mr Young said the carbon tax was a huge threat to Central Queenslanders' jobs security.
“The last thing Central Queenslanders need is a carbon tax that pushes up electricity bills by another $300 a year and adds another 6.5 cents a litre to petrol prices, while making no difference to the global climate,” he said.
“Robert Schwarten and Paul Hoolihan need to stop kowtowing to their Labor mates in Canberra and put Central Queenslanders' interests first by opposing this tax.”
Mr Young said the carbon tax was just as bad as the Bligh government's mismanagement of the economy – a number one danger for the region's workers' futures.
