MP steps out of picture
A FRAMED Brisbane Broncos shirt, a personal picture of Gough and Margaret Whitlam personally sent by the former PM, a Chinese umbrella and his own doctorate certificate were among the last remaining items Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten packed away at his office yesterday.
It was a special day as the retiring Mr Schwarten said his final goodbyes at the Denham St office from which he has been based since 1995.
The past few days have provided a trip down memory lane for him and his loyal staff as mementoes from more than three decades in politics have been packed away for storage.
"I'm a hoarder," Mr Schwarten conceded.
The outgoing member will spend today handing out how to vote cards for Labor candidate Bill Byrne before switching his support tomorrow to supporting his brother, Stephen, who is seeking re-election to the Rockhampton Regional Council.
