RUGBY LEAGUE: Capras hooker Krys Freeman came to Rockhampton with a winning attitude, knowing he is his harshest critic.

He laments every mistake, missed tackle or lost opportunity.

Fortunately they've been few and far between in 2017, he has been the model of consistency for the Browne Park faithful.

Freeman has been nominated for the XXXX People's Choice Awards as the Capras representative.

"I am really happy with the nomination, it is nice to be valued by the team," the flame-haired rake said.

"All the boys put in the effort so to recognised is nice.

"I would love to play my best game every single week and I strive to. Some of the games we've lost I do feel I could have done better.

"Five to 10 games we have been in a position to win, and I didn't come up with the right play. I kick myself for them."

It is the second time he has been nominated for the coveted award.

Freeman, who had been approached by coach Kim Williams on three occasions, finally joined at the start of the year.

2017 Nominees

  • Burleigh Bears - Matt White
  • CQ Capras - Krys Freeman
  • Easts Tigers - Billy Walters
  • Ipswich Jets - Wes Conlon
  • Mackay Cutters - Andrew Davey
  • Northern Pride - Graham Clark
  • Norths Devils - Delouise Hoeter
  • PNG Hunters - Ase Boas
  • Redcliffe Dolphins - Thompson Teteh
  • Souths Logan Magpies - Jamayne Isaako
  • Sunshine Coast Falcons - Justin Olam
  • Townsville Blackhawks - Carlin Anderson
  • Tweed Heads Seagulls - Ben Nakubuwai
  • Wynnum Manly Seagulls - Peter Gubb

Not only did he fill a void left by the great Ian Webster, he cemented his status as one of the best dummy halves in the comp.

He is a tackling machine, smart in both distribution and kicking game, and tough as an old boot.

Yet in speaking with the man, you hear the pain in his voice of what could have been. He trade in all individual honours to sing the team song in the sheds.

"It is a results business and we haven't been getting them," the McGrath Rockhampton Real Estate agent said.

"We've been so close, lost so many close games that could have gone either way.

"I think my kicking game has been good and my defensive with Gavin Hiscox in the middle. My running game has gone well, I'd say I've just been consistent."

With two games left for the season, Souths Logan and Ipswich, Freeman just wants his side to continue the fight.

"The aim is to win, obviously," he said.

"But I want us to play with the same intensity and commitment we showed on the weekend (against Townsville Blackhawks).

"It was a full on game, a big all round effort. We had a really good crack and no matter the result, we need to have that winning attitude."
