MRI suite officially opened

DEPUTY Premier and Minister for Health Paul Lucas officially opened Rockhampton's first public MRI facility and the hospital's new Rehabilitation unit yesterday.

The new suite contains a magnet room, control room, anaesthetic induction bay, change room and equipment room.

“This 3Tesla MRI scanner, which is one of the best machines in the country, will take imaging at Rockhampton Hospital to a whole new level for thousands of local residents.

“It will deliver an expanded service to people living in Central Queensland, doing up to 20 scans a day and it's predicted to scan between 3000 to 4000 patients per year,” Mr Lucas said.

Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten said he was excited to see parts of the redevelopment reaching completion and ready to deliver enhanced services to locals.

“I am very pleased that we now have this new scanning technology available as well as a new recovery environment for patients requiring rehabilitation,” Mr Schwarten said.

The new Rehabilitation Unit and Learning and Development Centre is a purpose-built facility and when it takes its first patients later this month will allow the hospital to provide expanded services.
