Tristan Kimlin stomachs hottest chilli to become champion

ALL hail Central Queensland's chilli champion.

Mulambin man Tristan Kimlin and several other Central Queenslanders proved they could handle the heat at today's Yeppoon Chilli Festival after competing in the chilli eating competition.

Tristan and the other contestants ate several of the spicy fruits, which ranged from mild to hot to hallucinogenic-hot.

Tristan managed to stomach the Trinidad Scorpion chilli, the hottest chilli in the world. It measured more than 1,000,000 Scoville heat units.

The day was organised by local man Nathan O'Connor, in conjunction with the Capricorn Coast PCYC.

It's the second chilli festival to be held at the PCYC site in Cooee Bay, on Matthew Flinders Dr.

Hundreds of people strolled through the gates today, some from as far as Biloela.

One couple passing through was from New South Wales.

See Monday's Morning Bulletin for more action from the festival.
