CQ mum hopes for clue over son's missing MH370 flight

IRENE Burrows has welcomed the news that authorities plan to hire a private contractor to continue the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

"Anything is better than nothing," she said from her Biloela home.

"I just want them to keep searching. Just some clue as to what happened would be a consolation."

Irene's son Rodney and his wife Mary were aboard the Boeing 777, which vanished from radars on March 8 as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It was carrying 239 people.

The Federal Government is currently reviewing tenders from qualified operators to determine who will conduct an advanced underwater search of the southern Indian Ocean, where the plane is believed to be.

The government wants the search, which is set to cost $60million, under way next month.

An international search effort has failed to find any trace of the aircraft.

Not knowing is the hardest thing for the Burrows family.

"It's been a long time of nothing," Irene said. "I just don't know. I'm at a loss about everything at present.

"The family is coping as best they can, trying to get on with life, but everyone has good and bad days."
