Murray St residents without water after main breaks today

AROUND 60 properties on Murray St have had their water shut off this morning after a water main break.

Fitzroy River Water advised the water in the street was shut off after 9am to houses between West St and Campbell St.

It is believed ageing infrastructure is to blame for the split in the 300mm water main, which happened around 7am this morning.

Crews have notified all affected businesses and will attempt to speak to affected residents.

Three water tankers will be on site to supply temporary water to KFC, McDonalds, Foodworks, the Metro Motel and some other small businesses nearby until water is restored.

It is suspected the outage will last for most of today.
