A BLANK envelope anonymously mailed to the Nambour Police Station contained more than just words - the precious package also had a gold diamond ring slipped inside.

The name and address were missing and the sender remains a mystery.

The package has officers baffled and now they are searching for the owner of the valuable delivery.

The circular cluster of diamonds creates a stunning piece which is suspected to have once been someone's engagement or wedding ring.

Police believe the ring was stolen some time ago. Officers did not indicate the wording of the note inside.

Nambour Police Property Office is eager to reunite the ring with its rightful owner.

"We have no idea where this package came from; someone has just sent it in with a note, so it's been difficult to match this up with any information," Bettina Engelhardt said.

"We have had no success tracking down the owner, but we have a feeling they live here on the Coast."

Police have been looking for the owner for several months.

"It's very unusual but we would love to find the owner," Ms Engelhardt said.

"We suspect the owner could be elderly and this would obviously have some sentimental value."

The owner of the ring would need to show either photo identification wearing the ring previously or a valuation certificate to claim the piece of jewellery.

Anyone who suspects they could be the owner should phone Nambour Police Station property office on 5459 0241.
