A SENIOR Queensland police officer says there has been an increase in Nazi items seized during raids across the state.
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from Taskforce Maxima said flags were the most common neo-Nazi items discovered.
The most extreme example, he said, was when a Cooktown shed raided during a drug probe was found to be a makeshift shrine to the Third Reich.
Detective Inspector Smith said the 48-year-old owner was a "self-proclaimed white supremacist" with a large swastika tattoo on his head.
"His house had Nazi paraphernalia through it, other sheds on the property had swastikas all over it. His front shed had gargoyles on fence posts with swastikas," he said.
