4000 to join 9500 already connected to NBN

NBN Co workers have begun rolling out fibre optic cable in three more Ipswich suburbs.

Construction of the high-speed internet line in West Ipswich, Coalfalls and Woodend started 12 months ago, but the workmen are laying cables around the area this week.

An NBN Co representative said the latest area would connect another 4000 homes to the network, adding to the 9500 homes already able to access the NBN in the Ipswich region.

The NBN was switched on in the Ipswich CBD earlier this month which is tipped to kick-start the city's revival.

The spokesperson said high-speed internet opens up opportunities to businesses.

"The NBN can open up opportunities for families and business owners to participate in the digital economy," the spokesperson said.

"Fast broadband can help deliver improved access to e-health resources, online education, teleworking opportunities and entertainment on-demand."

The spokesperson said residents and business owners were encouraged to check the detailed maps which were updated monthly.

They showed the areas to be covered by the network at nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map.

The rollout has also included parts of eastern Ipswich, with a number of areas ready to begin construction, according the NBN rollout maps listed online.

The network is available in Redbank, Goodna, parts of Redbank Plains and Bellbird Park.

Construction began in Bundamba, Booval and New Chum in August last year.

Work is set to begin in Gailes and Carole Park.
