New church on Capricorn Coast offers simple ideas

AS AN optometrist and engineer, Jo and Dan James decided to venture down a new path that led them to Calvary Christian Church.

The young couple, who are expecting their first baby, are launching the new church in Yeppoon this weekend and want to invite the community to come along.

"It's part of a big church, we have four campuses that include Cairns, Townsville, Emerald, Sunshine Coast and our fifth will be here in Yeppoon," Dan said.

"We moved here from Cairns about three months ago to launch the church which we're really excited about it.

"Pastor Ernie Peters is retiring so we're re-launching the existing church he was looking after."

To be held at Mercure Resort's Palms Convention Centre for the rest of the year, Jo said Calvary existed to help increase numbers of people to love God, care for one another and serve their world.

"We think Christianity should be real and simple," she said. "Which is what we're all about.

"We want to keep it nice and clear for people and it appeals to all ages.

"We've had a lot of older members from the church say how pleased they are to see their faith is still relevant today."

Their church launch will be held on May 17 from 9am.
