New licences available across Qld

SOME people believe it is rare for a politician to come good on a promise, however Queensland Minister for Transport Annastacia Palaszczuk has done exactly that.

In April, at a community cabinet meeting held in Toowoomba, Ms Palaszczuk announced that by the end of the year the new Queensland driver's licence would be rolled out across the state.

"When I became Transport Minister, I promised that the new driver's licence would be available across the state by the end of the year, not just at certain customer service centres," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Toowoomba was the testing ground for the state-of-the-art driver's licence before they were implemented at service centres across the state.

"Toowoomba was chosen as the testing ground because its size and population made it the perfect centre," she said.

To date, more than 500,000 new driver's licences have been issued across the state, with more than 30,000 of them issued in Toowoomba alone.

"Other states are envious of the level of security our driver's licences provide and are looking into implementing similar levels of security in their driver's licence roll out," she added.
