New Mercedes Sprinter to help Patient Transport Service

GETTING patients to and from local hospitals is now easier and a lot more comfortable.

The Mid North Coast Local Health District's (MNCLHD) Patient Transport Service has taken delivery of a new, purpose-designed dual stretcher Patient Transport Vehicle.

The Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicle is currently based at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus where it will boost the service's ability to provide inter-hospital transport for patients travelling between public health facilities throughout the MNCLHD.

The new addition is the first dual stretcher transport vehicle in the MNCLHD and has been eagerly awaited by the Coffs Harbour Transport Team.

Patient Transport Service Area Manager Julie Dodds said it is anticipated that the addition of the new vehicle will increase service delivery across the Local Health District including the trips out to Bellingen and Dorrigo.

"The vehicle provides better equipment storage, greater comfort for patients and very importantly boasts more interior space for the transport teams," Ms Dodds said.

A new state of the art electric stretcher and loading system forms part of the upgrade and will greatly reduce the necessity for staff to lift stretchers in and out of the vehicle.

The Patient Transport Service assists more than 500 patients per month across the Mid North Coast Local Health District. There are five transport teams working out of the hospitals at Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Macksville and Coffs Harbour.
