New owners revitalise top gym-swim facility at Zilzie
AFTER Stu Rodie and his partner Ashlea King visited the Capricorn Coast a few years ago, it didn't take long for them to make the move from Melbourne and settle here.
"I came up here for a half ironman and then we decided to buy a house and move here," Mr Rodie told the Capricorn Coast Mirror last week.
"What brought us here was the weather, but we found everyone to be so friendly as well so we love it here," he said.
In the past six weeks, the couple has become the new owners of Emu Park Gym and Swim Facility in Zilzie's Seaspray estate, which was previously run by Ambitionz Health and Fitness.
Mr Rodie said he could not believe more locals were not taking advantage of the centre.
"There's not a facility like this elsewhere on the Capricorn Coast," he said.
Mr Rodie said he aimed to boost membership from 400 to more than 800 and hoped an Open Day on Saturday, June 20, would help.
"We're open and thriving, and we're excited about taking it over and see it as a great opportunity to help anyone in the community who wants to improve their health and fitness," he said.
In the fitness industry for 26 years as well as a former elite athlete in rugby union and cricket, Mr Rodie said he aimed to help people be the best they could. Ms King is a qualified nutritionist.
"We believe that education and availability is how we can continue to help members get great results; customer service with a community focus is what we are all about," Mr Rodie said.
"We enjoy what we do and we want everyone to enjoy coming to the gym and getting results."
Swimming lessons will begin next school term.
"The facility is first rate, 24/7 access, a 25m heated lap pool, a leisure pool for the kids as well as child minding, free weights , pin-loaded machines and cardio equipment as well as group exercise, seniors' classes, tennis courts and netball court all of which is included with your membership," Mr Rodie said.
"We're all looking forward to the $40,000 worth of new equipment also heading into the weights room to take the gym to the next level," he said.
"This facility is very important for the community so we are doing our best to ensure they have the best facility we can give them to make their time here a positive one and make it as popular as it once was."
He said employee Mia Jervois would remain, and had been a positive influence.
"Other staff, that we have inherited are Mitch Dare, personal trainer, and Sandra Bauer, gym instructor and administration, that are fantastic and are looking forward to the changes we have begun making already at the gym," he said.
