Newman on track to lose his seat in next election

PREMIER Campbell Newman has shrugged off a poll indicating he would lose his seat of Ashgrove if an election was held today.

The controversial sacking of an entire parliamentary committee and the introduction of tough anti-bikie laws could cost Mr  Newman his seat, the ReachTEL poll shows.

The poll of 787 voters in Mr Newman's seat of Ashgrove, commissioned by Seven News, showed 53.6 per cent were less likely to vote for him because he dumped the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee.

Of those surveyed, 48.1 per cent said they were less likely to vote for Mr Newman and the LNP because of recent changes to laws targeting organised crime and bikies.

Mr Newman did not directly address the results of the poll but cited the LNP's election mantra, saying the government was working to get the state ''back on track''.
