New app holds key to shorter waits at bus stop
NIC Griffin holds the key to shorter waits at Rocky bus stops.
Commuters travelling on any Rockhampton Young's bus service can now track their bus in real-time through a new online application.
The technology, the first of its kind in the region, uses GPS signals to pin-point the exact location of any bus on a map and updates these positions every 30 seconds.
Young's Bus Service employee Nic Griffin said it delivered the latest travel information to passengers via their PC or smart phones.
"This is a really big deal for people who catch the bus, people can log on to the app and see exactly when their bus will reach the stop, saving waiting times across the board," Mr Griffin said.
The live timetable also generates estimated arrival times and the location of all Young's bus stops.
"We wanted to create something that would improve our customer experience and make it easier for them to catch the bus ... I think we have done that.
"People can also use their smart phone's GPS to find where their closest bus stops are to their location, so it's great for all travellers new and old.
"Previously if there was a delay or interruption in the service there was no way to let travellers know, the live timetable bridges this information gap."
