Heroism and courage is something we usually think belongs primarily to people. However the quality of going above and beyond, often at great risk showing bravery in extraordinary circumstances is also something animals display.

With Anzac Day coming up here are some of the amazing true stories of the many gallant dogs, horses, pigeons, donkeys, pets and mascots who have served with Australia's armed services since the First World War.
