Nigel Hutton says foreshore will be "our greatest asset"

Nigel Hutton

THE foreshore is one of our greatest community assets and the opportunity created through the partnership between Livingstone Shire and the State Government provides economic stimulus and new community assets at a time of economic hardship.

Our vision must be beyond the five-year horizon to reach for the 20-year and the 50-year horizon.

The greatest success of the inaugural council has been bringing "community" to the forefront of council's decision-making, planning and culture.

While council must take up the best practices of the corporate sector to get the greatest benefit for our residents, it should always have the community at its heart.

This term we have successfully advocated for $55 million in much-needed community infrastructure, removed the fees for community groups to use the Community Centre, developed a policy for events which gives greater funding certainty, partnered with KBSC to provide community grants, asked and responded to what our 'youth' want and recognised the unique character and desires of communities in the new town plan.

I would be honoured to serve Livingstone beyond 2016.
