Nippers from three clubs ready to put skills to test
SURF LIFE SAVING: Emily Sattler, Jack Newton and Kade Goudie will fly the flag for Yeppoon in the under-14 age group in the opening round of the three-point carnival.
They will be among about 140 nippers from Yeppoon, Tannum Sands and Emu Park surf life saving clubs who will hit the sand and the surf at Yeppoon tomorrow.
YSLSC junior activities co-ordinator Sam Milfull said the carnival was always keenly contested.
"We have nippers in age groups from under-8 through to under-15. They will compete in beach and water-based events,” he said.
"Emily, Jack and Kade are predominantly water-based competitors and they should go pretty well in their age group.
"They were among eight of our club members who were recently named in the Queensland Country team after the North Australian Championships a few weekends ago.
"We also have a lot of new nippers who will be in their first carnival tomorrow so it's a great opportunity for them to get a taste of this level of competition.”
Milfull said the action, which will include beach flags and beach sprints, surf swims and board relays, would start at 9am on Yeppoon's Main Beach.
Tannum Sands hosts the second round of the carnival in a fortnight, with Emu Park two weeks after that.
