Rocky Mayor in favour of getting rid of council divisions

ROCKHAMPTON Region Mayor Margaret Strelow has confirmed she is in favour of getting rid of council divisions.

"Yes … It's time for a fresh start," she said. "I think it's really important, if we're going to have a fresh start then we have the opportunity to get rid of divisions."

Cr Strelow said she was aware not everyone in the former Livingstone Shire agreed but that she was personally in favour.

"It's a difficult thing for councillors to vote for, especially those who have worked hard in a small community, and I can understand that," she said.

Divisional representation was the preference of the old Livingstone councillors but Cr Strelow said it was never Rockhampton's preferred option. "Majority of councils don't have divisions. I think we've seen the worst of what it can do," she said.
