Magnitude 6.2 earthquake hits off Fijian islands

AN earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has struck off the coast of islands in Fiji.

The US Geological Survey estimated it hit about 56km off Ndoi Island.

There is no tsunami threat associated with the quake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.

"Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected," it said in a statement.

There was also no risk to Hawaii.
