Norths on track for grand final berth at Nines
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Norths Chargers remain unbeaten after the first day of the Schwarz Excavations Nines at Rockhampton's Browne Park.
The Rockhampton A-grade reigning premiers have their eyes on the first division men's final after scoring wins against the Biloela Panthers and the Woorabinda Warriors.
The Yeppoon Seagulls, who are gunning for a three-peat at the Nines, had recorded two wins before going down in a 11-10 thriller to the Emu Park Emus last night.
Nines organiser Walson Carlos said a crowd of about 2000 had been treated to some great football on the opening day.
Twenty-one teams from across Central Queensland are taking part in the two-day carnival in first and second men's, under-20 men's and women's divisions.
"It's been really good. We had a great turnout yesterday and hopefully that continues today.
"The women's competition has been a highlight.
"The Emu Park Emus (the reigning champions) are still favourites to win but Rockhampton Brothers have put up a really good challenge.
"They beat Blackwater this morning and will play them again, with the winner to play Emu Park in the final.”
