NRL Bid wants 35,000 signatures

THE National Rugby League (NRL) would not be able to ignore Central Queensland’s quest for a team if a petition attracted 35,000 to 40,000 signatures, bid CEO Denis Keeffe said yesterday.

The official petition, launched by The Morning Bulletin last year in partnership with the CQ NRL Bid team, currently has about 15,000 signatures.

Mr Keeffe yesterday revealed an electronic database was being constructed with details of all signatories.

“I’ve spoken with the NRL and if we get 35,000 to 40,000 signatures that

would be something they just can’t ignore.” Mr Keeffe collected more than 100 signatures in an hour at last weekend’s Amart Allsports Sports Expo. .

He is urging anyone with signed petitions to contact him so collection can be arranged.

“If any businesses want to display petitions in their stores, I’m happy to arrange for petitions to be dropped off.”
