Women doing armed robberies on pubs and bottlos rising

THE number of victims of armed robberies fell more than 30% between 2003 and 2010, new figures from the Australian Institute of Criminology reveal.

Summarising the findings of 12,005 victims reported to police in Australia, the report found a 36% decrease over the years.

In raw figures, it found victim numbers fell from 8865 in 2003 to 5713 in 2010.

Report author Dr Maria Borzycki said it showed the rate of armed robbery victimisation feel from 33 people per 100,000 in 2003 to 18 per 100,000 in 2010.

However, armed robberies in licensed premises rose 20% from 309 to 370 over the same period, as well as more female offenders, up from 93 to 130.

Every year about a third of armed robberies took place on the street, while about one-fifth took place in a retail business.
