Oddie takes victory flag

COULD young Harrison Oddie be Australia's next Mark Webber?

There's a good chance if his performance at the Fitzroy Park Raceway at the weekend is anything to go by.

The 11-year-old set a scorching pace in his kart as he raced to victory in the Midget class and his fifth win out of six starts in this year's Supercheap Auto Series.

Later this month he's off to Malaysia where he's been invited to compete at the Yamaha World Challenge.

Speaking after his victory yesterday, Harrison said he would one day love to compete in the V8s and Formula 1.

“I love being out on the track,” he said.

“This is a challenging track, but good fun.”

He said he got the car up to speeds of about 120kmh, but yesterday's average was around the 80kmh mark.

Harrison said he'd been racing for about three years.

His kart is worth about $7000.
