Offenders try to steal safe from CQUniversity

POWER was cut to CQUniversity in the early hours of Tuesday after offenders managed to pry open a door leading into the gym.

Sometime between 1am and 2am, the offenders entered the pool area near the university gym and attempted to gain access to a door leading into the gym and cafeteria area.

When they were unable to get in, they climbed over the top of a barbed wire fence and gained entry through a door.

Once inside, they disabled the power and conducted a search through numerous cupboards and lockers.

The offenders attempted to remove a safe from the office area, however their attempt was disrupted by campus security conducting routine patrols.

They then fled from the university in a vehicle when disturbed by campus security.

Police are requesting any assistance from the public in relation to these offences and encourage members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
