O'l Felas tough it out to win eight-hour cross-country event
ROCKHAMPTON'S Joel Robinson showed off his skills while riding for the O'l Felas elite team in the Rocky Mountain Bike Club's Eight Hour Cross-country event, at Seeonee Park.
The gruelling eight-hour event on Saturday saw 55 competitors from around the region slog it out to see which team, or individual, could complete the most laps of the Seeonee Park circuit.
Robinson and the O'l Felas team-mates Stephen Wilcock and Garth Merrill finished in second place after completing 20, six-kilometre laps in a time of 7hr 39min10sec while the visiting Townsville team MTBtips.com, led by Chris Carter dominated the elite team riding 21 laps, in 7:33.22, on what Carter said was a "pearler of a track".
Close racing featured in the rest of the elite division, while another Townsville team BNG Sports, took out the mixed team category, circuiting the course 18 times, in 7.43:33.
Meanwhile Rockhampton's Soft Serves served it up to the rest of the Sport Teams, while Ninja Turtles took out the ladies division.
Matt Ness and Zara-Lee Goodsen won the male and female solo classes.
The solo classes had a pretty tough time on the course for around eight hours, and the general consensus was to restrict the solo event to six hours next year, Rocky Mountain Bike president Andrew Dunn said.
The next event on the Rocky Mountain Bike Club calendar will be round three of the Cross Country Series, on June 16, at Seeonee Park.
