Woman 'lucky to be alive' after walking away from fatal crash

EMERGENCY paramedics say airbags played a factor in saving a woman's life in a two-vehicle car crash in Woodford this morning.

The RACQ Careflight helicopter crew said the 50 -year-old Wurtulla woman is lucky to be alive after she walked away from the crash, which killed the sole occupant of the other vehicle.

Initial information suggests at 7.40am, a car and a four-wheel-drive crashed at the intersection of the D'Aguilar Highway and Kilcoy Beerwah Rd.

Shortly before 8am the Sunshine Coast crew flew to the two vehicle crash which had left the driver and sole occupant of one vehicle dead and the driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle with relatively minor injuries.

"The woman's airbags deployed on impact which definitely minimised her injuries," said RACQ CareFlight Aircrew Officer Scott Reeman.

"She was able to get herself out of the vehicle and walk away.  The airbags definitely helped her survival."

RACQ CareFlight airlifted the 5woman to Nambour General Hospital.  She was in a stable condition.

Both lanes of the highway were closed with significant delays expected as Forensic Crash Unit police conduct their investigations into the crash.

Diversions are in place via Neurum Rd, and congestion can be expected.
