One dead after emergency situation in FNQ

AN emergency situation declared at 11am yesterday has become a murder charge at Hopevale in far north Queensland.

The emergency declaration was made after police were told a woman was deceased at a property on Cameron Creek Road and another woman was armed.

The declaration was revoked at 4:36 after a woman surrendered to specialist police.

Police say they located a 71-year-old woman dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound.

A 46-year-old woman has been charged with one count of murder and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on February 20.
