One dead in fiery crash on Cap Hwy

UPDATE 8.40pm: POLICE have confirmed a man died in a three vehicle crash on the Capricorn Highway at Wycarbah just before 6.30pm

The vehicles were carrying a total of 11 passengers at the time of the crash.

One woman was taken to the Rockhampton Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries after being entrapped inside a vehicle for a period of time.

A man and four children have also been transported to hospital with injuries.

The other three adults and one child involved are believed to be uninjured.

The road has been partially opened to small vehicles but motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible.

Investigations are continuing.

UPDATE 7.15pm: The Capricorn Highway remains closed as emergency services work to free a woman from her car.

It is believed the two vehicle accident claimed the life of one person on the Capricorn Highway about 40 km south west of Rockhampton just before 6.30pm.

Initial reports suggest one vehicle was on fire but the blaze has since been extinguished.

BREAKING 6.50pm: Emergency services are at the scene of what is believed to be a fatal accident on the Capricorn Highway near Wycarbah.

The crash happened around 6.30pm with multiple vehicles involved, the highway blocked and one vehicle on fire.

A female is entrapped in a vehicle and another person is believed to be deceased.
