One dead, three injured as unit goes up in flames

ONE person has been found dead after a unit fire at Bribie Island.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene about 7am today after reports of a fire.

A passerby had noticed flames and ran inside to help one of the occupants escape. 

By the time police arrived at the Boyd St residential complex at Woorim, the unit was ablaze.

Firefighters leapt into action and were able to keep the fire from spreading to other units.

An elderly male occupant of the unit was evacuated and transported to Caboolture Hospital for smoke inhalation, and remains in a stable condition.

Further investigations located a deceased person inside the unit.

A man in his forties was treated at the scene for lacerations to his legs, while a firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

Police have since launched investigations into what caused the fire.
