One man dead, teen critical after Brisbane crane collapses

A HORROR crane collapse in Brisbane has killed a 41-year-old man and left a 17-year-old in a critical condition.

The pair were inside the crane's bucket at Newstead on Brisbane's north side when the collapse occurred at 7pm on Monday.
 

Acting Police Inspector Rob Campbell told ABC radio this morning the boom of the crane was extended, and it toppled over "causing the death of one person and serious injuring another that were in the bucket of the crane".

The 17-year-old is understood to have suffered injuries to the lower half of his body.

Workplace health and safety officials are now investigating.

Witness James Small told ABC said the crane "was at least 30 to 40 metres high" when it toppled.
