Oscar de la Renta has died due to complications from cancer

THE man known for designing show-stopping red carpet gowns and dressing first ladies, socialites and Hollywood starlets, Oscar de la Renta, has died aged 82.

The cause of his death was due to complications from cancer.

Though ill with cancer intermittently for close to eight years, Mr. de la Renta was resilient.

"The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die," he reportedly told an audience at New York's 92Y "Fashion Talks" series in June 2013.

"We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life."

The designer made a name for himself, when he dressed Jacqueline Kennedy in the 1960s. He most recently designed the wedding gown worn by George Clooney's wife, Amal.

Coincidentally just last week de la Renta officially named ex-Nina Ricci designer, Peter Copping as his creative successor at his eponymous label.
