Poole told the Daily he also believes many other elite athletes are considering the drastic action as new rumours of financial strife at the high-profile club surface.

The last straw for Poole was arriving at a 5am swim training session at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Monday morning to find he was locked out.

The Surf Club is yet to confirm rumours it is in financial strife and has cutback on its renowned surf sports program which has been the breeding ground for champions for years.

Newly elected President David Jewry is expected to make an announcement this afternoon.

Michael King denied yesterday he had quit the club, but it appears his shift is becoming certain.
