CLAD in a classic black skivvy and dark jeans, Miley Cyrus has this week reminded the world that she is more than just a sexpot canary by performing a stunning cover of Lana Del Ray's Summertime Sadness for the BBC.

She also sang her smash Wrecking Ball, a song with a video featuring a naked Miley straddling a wrecking ball then later licking a sledgehammer.

Both were stripped back in the Live Lounge studios for BBC Radio 1 and make for a compelling antidote to her now-notorious on-stage antics.

It is not the first time Miley has shown off her remarkable singing talent without the bells, whistles and raunch that usually comes with it.

Late last year, she belted out a stack of covers in The Backyard Sessions with her band, including Dolly Parton's Jolene.

The results are enough to deliver some hope that her sexually-charged persona is just a passing phase to sell albums.
